ⓘ 'Allanite Group' Formula: (A12+REE3+)(M13+M23+M32+)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH) Description: The composition of the various grains and crystals of allanite group minerals are of an intermediate composition between dissakisite-(Ce), dollaseite-(Ce) and allanite-(Ce). Jansson (2001) distinguishes between dissakisite-(Ce) and dollaseite-(Ce) based on paragenesis. Small, anhedral grains and masses embedded in tremolite and larger tabular crystals embedded in calcite lenses within the tremolite are considered to be dissakisite-(Ce), whereas the material embedded in the dolomite marble associated with norbergite and magnetite is considered to be dollaseite-(Ce). The analytical basis for this distinction is quite slim.

The composition of the various grains and crystals of allanite group minerals are of an intermediate composition between dissakisite-(Ce), dollaseite-(Ce) and allanite-(Ce). Jansson (2001) distinguishes between dissakisite-(Ce) and dollaseite-(Ce) based on paragenesis. Small, anhedral grains and masses embedded in tremolite and larger tabular crystals embedded in calcite lenses within the tremolite are considered to be dissakisite-(Ce), whereas the material embedded in the dolomite marble associated with norbergite and magnetite is considered to be dollaseite-(Ce). The individual grains embedded in tremolite are rarely visible to the naked eye, whereas the tabular crystals found embedded in calcite lenses in tremolite can be up to up to 4-10 mm. |
