Dana (1875) states that several minerals occur "near Hadlyme". Because it is a village located near the line between the towns of East Haddam to the north and Lyme to the south (mostly in Lyme), it is possible the find(s) were in East Haddam. However, the specific locality(ies) are not mentioned, though they could be from old quarries near the ferry landing just north of or at the mouth of Whalebone Creek. Coordinates are for the junction of River Road and State Route 148.

ⓘ 'Chabazite' Habit: rhombohedral Colour: yellow to red Description: “on gneiss” Dana (1875) |
ⓘ Epidote Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlFe3+)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH) Description: with stilbite, apatite, garnet "on gneiss". |
ⓘ 'Garnet Group' Formula: X3Z2(SiO4)3 Description: with stilbite, epidote, apatite "on gneiss". |
ⓘ 'Heulandite Subgroup' Formula: (Na/Ca/K)5-6[Al8-9 Si27-28 O72] · nH2O Description: “with stilbite and chabazite on gneiss” Dana (1875) |
ⓘ Quartz ? Formula: SiO2 Description: Attributed locality References: |
ⓘ ' Description: Shepard (1837) lists it as "lining the walls of fissures in the gneiss-quarries of Hadlyme" and several other rock quarries in eastern Conn. That mode of occurrence is more like stilbite, which is common as radiating crystals in fractures in gneiss. He evidently confused the radiating habit of scapolite seen at Trumbull and elsewhere, but in those cases is a primary rock forming mineral, with the late-forming, secondary stilbite in fractures. |
ⓘ 'Stilbite Subgroup' Formula: M6-7[Al8-9Si27-28O72] · nH2O Habit: radiating aggregates Colour: yellow-orange Description: Attributed locality. “in radiating forms on gneiss, associated with epidote, garnet, and apatite” Dana (1875) |
