The Flåt feldspar quarry was once one of the larger feldspar quarries with a production of more than 10.000 tons of feldspar in the period between 1897 and 1927.
The quarry was started in 1884 as one of the first in the Landsverk area for the extraction of quartz for the smelter of the Evje Nikkelverk. It is estimated that 2000 tons of quartz were taken out. This is not much in comparison to the the amount of feldspar, but many of the Landsverk quarries contain relatively little quartz as compared to other pegmatites in the Evje-iveland area. Nowadays the quarry is flooded and inaccessable. The dumps are small and don't look promising.
It is said that a 1 meter long quartz crystal was found in this quarry, but nobody knows what happened with it. If it is true, then it is probably the largest ever found in Evje-Iveland.
The presence of hydrothermally formed minerals in the pegmatite is considered to be a sign that this pegmatite has been affected by the same event as the Landsverk 1 pegmatite, i.e. brecciation and subsequently a hydrothermally formed suite of minerals.
