Ancienne mine de Font Ferrière


A former lead mine, located south of Grezolles. Three veins ("Main vein", "Barjat vein" and "Bourru vein") were worked up to 140 m depth.
The mining claim was granted in 1728 to the Blumenstein family. Some excavations were undertaken from 1734 to 1736 but the work did not begin until 1763. During the exploitation from 1763 to 1831, 3500 tons of lead were worked out. On February 10th, 1956, the PENARROYA company became the owner of the mining claim and decided to restore the old adits. But profits were disappointing and the company closed the mine in 1958.
Today, a closed adit and some dumps are still visible.
