An abandoned and filled in quarry 3 miles southeast of Richmond in the NE¼, SW¼, Section 11, Township 13 N., Range 1 W. The quarry exposed the Upper Ordovician Elkhorn Formation (Limestone) and the Silurian Brassfield Formation (Dolostone). It is unknown when the quarry closed, but it was likely before the 1970s when the Debolt Family moved their operations to a new quarry near Middleboro (now operated by Barrett Paving Materials Inc). The quarry provided aggregate and rip rap for customers in the Richmond area and other towns in Wayne County.
In 1947, the locality was field checked by George E. Erickson and John B. Batton (1949), and again by Richard C. Erd and Seymour S. Greenberg (1960). Erd and Greenburg (1960) found apatite (erroneously reported), fluorescent baryte, calcite, dolomite, marcasite, pyrite and goethite (as reddish coatings on pyrite).
