Road cuts along state Route 8 expressway in the vicinity of its interchange with Waterbury Road, which crosses the Naugatuck River just to the east in the section of town thus known as Reynold's Bridge. This section of the expressway was constructed in the 1960s and opened by 1970, so the finds date from that era and the references from just after. There are local rock cuts and a small quarry along Waterbury Road as well, just east of Route 8. The cuts expose very highly deformed metavolcanic rocks of the Ordovician Collinsville Formation, though some calc-silicate rocks and pegmatites are evidently present based on Januzzi (1976, 1994) and Tschernich (1992).
