Found in 1826 and first claimed by T.S. Heyerdahl in 1831.

Ettner (2001) writes that there have been at least two periods of mining.

The first known period is 1844-45, with a production of 1281 "Tdr" (barrels ore (ca. 500 tons ore) was produced containing 10-12% copper.

The mine was 30 to 50 m deep.

Mining attempts were also made by Sætesdalen Kobberværk in 1863 and 1888.

From 1915 to 1918 the mine was operated by G.A. Henriksen & Co (renamed to Sørlandske Bergindustri in 1918).

The mine produced:
337 tons of export ore with 10-13% copper
1493 tons of washing ore with 3-5% copper

The mine employed up to 15 men for mining, and an unspecified number of children for hand-picking the ore.

The mine was abandoned on the 1st of August 1918.

In 1971 A/S Sulfidmalm drained and investigated the mine.

Etnner (2001) reports finds of gold of up to 1,62 g/t.

The mineralisation occurs in amphibolite schist, in the contact zone with a granite. In a zone of up to 0,5 to 1 meter immediately below the hanging wall granite, the mineralized zone is found.

Chalcopyrite and bornite are the main ore minerals.

The NGU calls this locality "Knutshus" (The house of Knut).
