Eastern Industries mined quartzite to produce construction coarse aggregate, concrete sand, and cement mill silica addative. The plant was on the south edge of the village of Kunkletown and the quarries were a short distance away on the north side of an adjacent ridge. Coordinates are for the principal quarry that operated in the 1970's and 80's.

The pit that provided plant feed in the 1970's and 80's exposed a massive, featureless sandstone. It was remarkable for the lack of any visible trace of sedimentary bedding even on weathered surfaces. The sandstone was cut by scattered, high angle narrow fractures. Occasionally, a dilatant portion of a fracture plane would be vuggy with small free standing quartz crystals. Tiny, sparce anatase crystals could occasionally be found implanted on the quartz.
