Granite Pegmatite. Wodgina District. Granite pegmatite and associated alluvium mentioned by Simpson (1928) that were mined for Sn and Nb-Ta oxides.
Pinga Creek is about 120 kilometres south of Port Hedland, and crosses the Great Northern Highway between the Wodgina Tantalite Mine, and the Yule River bridge crossing. The Pinga Mining Centre is 6 kilometres east of the highway, half-way between it and the BHP Billiton railway line.
Information on the locations is limited to E.S. Simpson's information from 1928.
The pegmatites are located within the older granites and gneisses, and south of the post tectonic Numbana Granite. The pegmatites form swarms of thin cassiterite bearing veins. Mining was from alluvial and elluvial material shed from the pegmatites.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Neoarchean to Orosirian : 2790 ± 25 Ma to 1900 ± 5 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
