Gold was discovered here in 1910 and the property was brought into production by Hollinger Corp. in 1934. Between 1934 and 1957 the mine produced 6,218,272 tons grading 0.094 oz/t. mainly from quartz stringer zones(and associated pyrite) in altered syenite. Various companies have been drilling on the property ever since.
Northgate Minerals Corp. was bringing this mine back into production together with the adjacent Matachewan Consolidated Mine. Production was expected to commence in 2012 at a rate of 6,000tpd.
In October 2011 AuRico Gold Inc. acquired Northgate. In July 2015, AuRico merged with Alamos Gold Inc. to become Alamos and the mine is 100% by Alamos.
