Calcite veins hosting schorl crystals to over 3.5 cm wide and up to 5.5 cm in length, and ilmenite crystals up to 3.2 cm, exposed during highway construction. The ilmenite crystals are usually altered to a mixture of hematite, rutile, and anatase. On occasion, this mixture can also contain brookite and titanite. Another uncommon pseudomorph is that of micro rutile crystal clusters after ilmenite crystals.
The road cut was exposed during the construction of Autoroute 5 extension (Phase I) during 2007-2009.
Schorl and ilmenite-bearing white calcite-filled joints (“veins”) and pods in pink felsic rock, presumably the Wakefield monzonite.
