Manganese deposit.

8 kilometres south of Ravensthorpe. Occurs at the contact between the Archaean Ravensthorpe Greenstone Belt and the Proterozoic Mt Barren Group. Manganese mineralisation is hosted by a dolomite unit, dipping south 5-10 degrees, and part of a locally east-west striking metamorphosed Proterozoic sedimentary sequence immediately adjacent to the Archaean basement contact. Massive surface manganese covers 100-200 metres long by 10-20 metres wide.

It is part of several high grade manganese deposits in the Ravensthorpe area, including Mt Chester only a few kilometres east, and a couple further west in the Fitzgerald River National Park. All have been known since the early 1900's but were never developed largely due to a lack of a decent port at Hopetoun. All are located now in national parks or class A reserves, containing rare flora. Gaining approval for large scale open pit mining at these locations would be difficult.
