The source states this is the first nickel mine developed in Western Australia via the Silver Lake shaft. It is the second largest shoot in the Kambalda area.

The komatiite flow is 50-100 metres thick. The host contains peridotite, talc, magnesite, chlorite, dolomite and antigorite. The Footwall is dark grey-green metabasalt, locally epidotised and biotitic. It also contains pillow zones, and massive Fe-Ni sulphides, between the pillows, and quartz veins locally.

The deposit is contained in the Lunnon Trough which contains the bulk of the mineralisation, and Lunnon East, bounded by moderate to high angle reverse faults. The trough is 100-150 metres wide, 1800 metre long, dipping south south-west at 20 degrees, and at one point 10 degrees north north-west.

At the extreme north-west of the shoot is the Silver Lake deposit, now mined out. It is a separate small trough like structure to the Lunnon Trough's west in much faulted and folded rock.

In the Lunnon Trough, massive ore is 0.5 to 1.5 metres thick, overlain by 2-4 metres of disseminated to matrix ore. The massive ore is interlayers of pyrite-pentlandite, pyrite lenses, and quartz veins.

Primary ore is pyrrhotite, pentlandite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, magnetite, and chromite. The pyrrhotite-pentlandite ratio is 2:3. Massive ore grades at 9% Ni, hanging wall ore 17% Ni.
