Substantial Victorian era copper mine worked intermittently from 1814-1874 with peak operations taking place in the period 1826-1831 under the ownership of the Mining Company of Ireland. The mine had a total recorded output of around 2,500 tons of ore and reached a maximum depth of 220m.
Some sparsely mineralised spoil can be found in the ditches and scattered around the site.
There is little to be seen today with most, if not all of the shafts having been in-filled. There is a row of deteriorating miners cottages and the stump of a chimney stack. The stack was probably built in 1862 coinciding with the reopening of the mine and was once 20m in height but was destroyed by a lightning strike in February 2002.
