Location: This occurrence is at an elevation of about 2,000 feet, in the saddle of a ridge 3 miles northeast of Solsmunket Lake. The map site is in section 12, T. 8 N., R. 13E., of the Kateel River Meridian. Cobb (1972, MF-448), location 12.
Geology: This occurrence consists of a tungsten-bearing quartz vein, and of radioactive minerals, in monzonite (Miller and Ferrians, 1968). The quartz vein is 1 to 3 feet wide. It assayed 7,000 ppm W, but no tungsten mineral was noted. Samples of monzonite from the border facies of the Cretaceous Zane Hills pluton, which is mainly granodiorite, contained 14 to 33 ppm U and 75 to 199 ppm Th. The radioactivity apparently is mainly in uranothorianite, thorite, betafite, allanite, zircon and sphene.
Workings: Site visited and sampled by U.S. Geological Survey (Miller and Ferrians, 1968).
Age: Cretaceous.
Commodities (Major) - W; (Minor) - REE, Th, U
