Geology: The general area is underlain by deformed and metamorphosed Silurian or Devonian carbonate, clastic and volcanic clastic rocks that have been intruded by Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous granitic and dioritic rocks (Brew and others, 1992). This occurrence consists of pyrite and magnetite in iron-stained greenstone granulite. It is described as a skarn deposit by the U.S. Bureau of Mines (Redman and others, 1989). Redman reports the occurrence was discovered by the U.S. Geological Survey.

Alteration: Local iron-staining.
