Manhattan is a borough of New York City and is also New York County of the state of New York. It is an island of the same name located between the Hudson River on the W and the East River on the E and New York harbor on the S. The northern boundary is today an artificial one based on the digging of the Harlem ship channel in lieu of the original Harlem River.
