Rhodochrosite in a mineralised lens at “Balma della Resta”, in the neighbourhood of “Sart” hamlet, was firstly reported by Jervis (1873).
Today, these toponyms are not in use and the location of this occurence is not clearly interpretable: actually, there is a hamlet, to the NE of Mondrone, named Sardi and, far from it, in the upper part of Rio della Chiesa valley, above Piano delle Mule Alp, on the southern slope of Becca della Resta there is a place, characterised by a stone building leaning against a large boulder, named Balma. Although field searches performed in recent times, no rhodochrosite and/or other Mn minerals have been found in this area.
