A small unsuccesful trial on a NE-trending lode, worked intermittently until 1864. In 1832, it was worked under the name Haughton Downs Mine and around 1850 as East Wheal Frances. A large shaft dump remains in a field south of Deep Lane, just northeast of Four Lanes. There are no records of output.
This mine should not be confused with Wheal Basset or Wheal Buller with which it had no connection.
