The municipality of "Le Mont-Dore" is located in the central part of the Quaternary Sancy stratovolcano. Volcanic rocks of the central part are particularly rich in well-formed microminerals, especially in the numerous enclaves. Allthough microcrystals can be found almost everywhere around the village, the various sublocalities indicate the richest outcrops.
