Clintonite was one of the first mineral discoveries in the Amity-Edenville area. It was apparently first found in 1828 and named “clintonite”, but the name was not published (Kearns, 1977). Subsequently, in 1829 the material was published as “bronzite” by Finch (1829). Other names have been applied over the years, but all have been discarded in favour of the original.
The occurrence seems to have been limited, one of the many lenses of unusual composition scattered through the Franklin Marble.
