Purnamoota is an abandoned mining area 30 km north of Broken Hill. It was famous in the pioneer days on account of the numerous slugs of almost pure silver found on the surface.
In addition to the abandoned silver-lead mines there is a Ba-rich calc-silicate rock outcrop which is the source of the armenite.
The area is located on Purnamoota Station and is in the Northern Broken Hill Block.
