A gold deposit. Mining started in the 11th century and ceased around 1617 when the deposit was exhausted. Later attempts at reworking the mines remained unsuccessful.
The old workings include numerous trial pits, dating back to the 13th century, a large open cut, from which gold was mined from the 12th until the 14th century, 48 old adits and 45 old shafts. The length of all adits and galleries driven below the hill is estimated at 20 km. The 15th-century workings of the old St Georg Mine are accessible to visitors.
Located near Goldhausen, about 4.5 km SW of Korbach.
One of the old adits, the 'Unterer Tiefer Thalstollen' has recently (ca. 2011) been developed as a tourist mine.
