Granulite-facies paragenesis of the Reading Prong geological province, specifically graphite-sillimanite-garnet-biotite-quartz-feldspar and biotite or hornblende-bearing pyroxene feldspar gneisses that outcrop in a power line right of way north of Taylor Road.
Kornerupine and prismatine occur in lithologies rich in Mg and Al but depleted in silica. Prismatine, the more boron rich member of the group, will crystallize in somewhat more siliceous environments (Grew, et al, 1996). This may be why prismatine is the dominant species at Mase Mountain where the host rock contains quartz. Metamorphism in the Reading Prong seems to be near the low end of the range where the Kornerupine-Prismatine group will crystallize. Conditions in the Reading Prong have been determined (Peck, et al, 2006) to have reached 760 deg. C and 5-6 Kbar. Grew, et al (1996)give data indicating a range of 700 degrees and 5 Kbar upwards.
