The Morro do Fraga mine was reported as a gold mine in iron-bearing talc beds, operated in the beginning of the 20th century.
This has now disappeared into the open-cast workings of the Samarco mine, an open-cast iron ore mine.
This is the site of the Bento Rodrigues Dam Distaster of 2015
