Milford is a town with a history of at least 15 granite quarries. Many of these were serviced by the Boston & Maine Railroad.
According to T. Nelson Dale (1908) Milford granites are quartz monzonites a of light, medium, and dark-gray shade, in places of a slight bluish, pinkish, or buff tinge, and always spangled with black mica.
