Late Miocene skarn-type Fe mineralization resulted in arsenical copper mineralization of hydrothermal origin with underwent strong alteration during the Pliocene and Quaternary by descending meteoric waters and subsequent alteration due to anthropogenic processes (around 3325 to 2890 BC). This resulted in the formation of various supergene alteration minerals including K–Cu humate–oxalate aggregates.

Several open adits still exist, a large one on the western side of Megalo Livadi (Rottenmanner, 2010).
