The chine's public beach access is closed and the nearest access is via Shepherds Chine, about an hours walk from the east of Whale Chine. Although the beach access is closed, an unofficial path has been created by local fishermen and walkers. However, this path is not maintained and can be dangerous to walk. It is possible to access the beach, but is steep and treacherous. WALK AT YOUR OWN RISK! DO NOT WALK WHEN WET!
The vivianite is found in hard phosphatic nodules littered around the base of the scree slopes on the right of the chine (when looking from the beach). The vivianite is uncommon to find on its own, and is often found in singular crystals, around 1-2mm in length, inside the rock. These nodules are often highly ferruginous and contain many fossils including brachipods and bivalves.
Calcite is found replacing fossils (mostly bivalves) and found in veins within the nodules.
