Silver deposit.
The Navidad Project is located about 35 km from the town of Gastre, in the department of the same name, north of the province of Chubut, in Argentine Patagonia.
The Navidad Project is located in the southwest of the North Patagonian Massif, in the sector coinciding with the Gastre Fault System. The granite basement of the northern region of Chubut belongs to the Mail Choique and Lipetren Paleozoic formations. Locally, these rocks appear on the surface through Mesozoic volcanic sedimentary rocks. The Mesozoic sequence consists of the Lonco Trapial formation and the overlying Cañada Asfalto formation, which hosts the mineralization from the Navidad project.
Regarding the mineralization of the deposit, the Mining Area of the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Jujuy points out: “The Navidad deposit has 8 mineral deposits along three bodies distributed over a surface of 6 by 4 km. Lead and copper in minor quantities are present as epithermal, stratiform streaks and disseminations."
The main block of the Navidad project covers four areas, -Navidad West, Navidad East, Navidad West 1 and Navidad East 1- each of them with an area of 2,500 hectares, to which are added three contiguous areas (Pampa 1, Puente 1 and Puente 2), whose rights belong to the operator Minera Argenta SA.
The preliminary study estimated an average daily production of 15,000 tons, considering a mine life of the order of 17 years. According to the same study, the production of the processing plant was estimated at 20 million ounces per year during the first five years and then an average of 16.5 million ounces per year of silver-copper and silver-lead concentrates, which would be exported for its refining.
Towards the end of 2015, the Navidad Project had not obtained the required authorizations for the start of its operation.
