The Lojane chromium and antimony mine near Lojane village was active from 1923 to 1979.
It worked on a chromite-bearing, silicified serpentinite until 1953 (an Antoinette mine is mentioned in Schumacher, 1954) and, starting in 1954, on vein-type realgar(-stibnite) mineralisation (derived from an andesite and hosted in serpentinite) from which antimony was extracted. In 1965 an antimony smelter started operating at the site. An unprotected tailings dump at the remnants of the smelter buildings consists mainly of fine-grained realgar and pararealgar.
Several small dumps still exist. Two adits are under water.
Geologically the deposit is located in the Vardar Zone.
Located north of Kumanovo, in Lipkovo Municipality.
Formerly located in Serbia.
Note on the mineral list: The apophyllite and vesuvianite briefly described by Meixner (1949) are "from fissures in aplite and from serpentine rocks in the Lojane region".
