Quarry in the pyroclastic deposits of Monte Somma. The abandoned quarry, in the past also indicated as "Cava Nuova", is located on the northern slope of Monte Somma.

The quarry has yielded good specimens of pseudobrookite and the best quartz crystals ever found in the Somma-Vesuvius complex.

"Merlinoite" crystals are usually composite crystals in which domains of both merlinoite and phillipsite-K coexist. Furthermore, the apparent single crystals very often consist of intergrowths of several individuals (Badham, 1997; Russo & Preite, 2011).
