This iron mine was begun as the Iron River Mine in 1882 as an open-pit operation, but had gone underground with four shafts by 1890. When incorporated into the Oliver Iron Mining Co.'s Riverton group in 1899, additional property was added and the mine was renamed Riverton Mine. The mine closed in 1931, but shipped from stockpile through 1937. The property description is NW-NW Sec. 36 and E1/2-NE Sec. 35 T43N-R35W. The original Iron River mine resided on the 40 acres in Sec. 36. The mine worked the Riverton Iron-Formation of the Paint River group.
