Cooper & Stanley (1990):

"Of the several small mines and trials recorded in this tributary of Hay Gill (see Adams, 1988: 79) only one has proved to be of mineralogical interest.

This level, Short Grain North [NY31303585], was driven northwards on the NNW-SSE Deer Hills quartz lode. The mine was last worked in 1870 and, since 1937, the date on the pumping house, the workings have been sealed and used as a water supply.

Recent examination of the small dump of mostly rock 'deads', quartz and baryte, has shown that some cavities in the baryte contain minute amounts of the rare supergene minerals susannite and mattheddleite."
