Stratabound iron deposits, hosted in Archean metamorphic rocks. The mine covers an area of about 15 x 5 km and includes two belts of banded iron formations (BIF) that are hosted in different parts of a complicated fault. The western belt contains the largest deposits, among them Mengjiagou and Shuichang. The deposits in the eastern belt are relatively small.
