Proterozoic metamorphic rocks, mainly biotite-plagioclase gneiss and dolomitic marble, that are intruded by a granite gneiss stock, granite pegmatites, diopside-albitite dykes and aplite veins. Gneiss and marble along the contact with the dykes contain gem-quality scapolite (marialite) and titanite crystals.
The scapolite crystals are transparent to translucent, show lilac-pink or various shades of purple colours and measure 1.5-3 cm x 0.3-1 cm on average, but can be up to 12 cm long and up to 5 cm across. They are composed of marialite and contain small amounts of chromium, which is responsible for their colour. The titanite crystals are transparent to translucent honey-yellow, show tabular to tabular-prismatic habits and measure 4 x 1 cm on average, but can be up to 15 cm long and up to 9 cm across.
