Tangen bruddet


Feldspar and quartz mine located 20 m north of Tangen farm, on the east side of the Kammerfosselven about 3-4 km west of the Kragerø town. The pegmatite which is hosted in amphibolites on the western slope of Mt. Sjåen was an irregular body about 40 m in length and 10-15 m wide.
Especially known for its large crystals of phenakite.
Collecting at the site is prohibited by the owner.

Note to mineral list:
Sharp crystals, often twinned, of columbite found in the cleavelandite zone have been known as columbite-(Mn) for nearly a century. However, new SEM-EDS analyses done on these have shown them to be columbite-(Fe) (Selbekk et al., 2008).

Description: As a chalc-like pseudomorphic columnar mineral, up to 3 cm , in pure quartz. The pseudomorphose after an unknown mineral consist of hingganite-(Yb) (confirmed by XRD), and the materiale is often contaminated by small amounts of kainosite-(Y). The total REE is dominated by Yb and Y.
