Porphyry copper-molybdenum-(gold-silver) deposit, located at the intercept of the NE-trending Manzhouli-Dalaidong thrust and a strike-slip fault with the NW-striking Hanigou fault that is a secondary structure of the major NE-striking Deerbugan fault zone. The deposit is hosted in a Yanshannian granodiorite porphyry (K-Ar isotopic age: 164 Ma) that is exposed over an area of 0.12 km2. The wallrock alteration forms a circular zoned pattern, with an inner quartz-K-feldspar zone, a middle quartz-sericite-hydromica zone and an outer illite-hydromica zone. There are 33 Cu and 13 Mo orebodies that are controlled by the porphyry body and the contact zone. From the center of the porphyry outward, a pyrite-molybdenite zone, a pyrite-chalcopyrite zone and a pyrite-galena-sphalerite zone occur. The Cu and Mo minerals occur mainly as disseminations and networks. Deposit-forming fluids exhibit high salinity (51 wt% NaCl) and high density (1.12 g/cm3).
By 2006, the deposit had 1.106 million tons of copper and 0.362 million tons of molybdenum identified, establishing it as the most significant large-scale porphyry copper–molybdenum deposit within the Erguna block. The Wunugetu deposit underwent two distinct magmatic phases. The first phase, during the Late Triassic, produced biotite granites, monzogranites, and granite porphyries, which together cover about 60% of the deposit’s total area. The biotite granites and monzogranites, forming batholiths, extend across the deposit and its vicinity, covering an exposed area of approximately 110 km2. These rocks are crucial as the ore-hosting rock masses and surrounding rocks of the deposit. The ore bodies within the Wunugetu deposit are arranged in a ring-like pattern orienting NWE, with monzogranite porphyries at their core. The area of mineralization spans roughly 2600 m in length and about 1400 m in width.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Early Jurassic : 178 ± 10 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
