Mombetsu26,895 (2017)26.2km


A prolific gold and silver mine, started in 1917. Production reached a peak in 1954 (3 tons Au per year), then declined and the mine was closed in 1973. (1958 production: 2.7 t Au, grade 6.4g/t; 39.1 t Ag, grade 94g/t.) Currently best known to collectors for its well-crystallized post-mining iron sulfates.
