The Fjällbacka site is a deep drilling project (the HDR geothermal research site) to do research on granite in the Swedish bedrock for extraction of geothermal energy from "dry" rocks. Two drill holes were sunk to a depth of 500m and fluids were circulated between the holes, studying movement of elements in the rock under varying conditions. Active between 1988 and 1995.

A close by drainage tunnel at 60m depth was also used to study rocks.
