Lead, fluorspar and ironstone workings on the Slitt Vein and associated flats in the Great Limestone.
Grid ref. given is for the Rigg Opencut workings, which produced ironstone from flats in the Great Limestone. Lower horizons on the vein were accessed from Siders Level (NY91693866) and fluorspar was worked from a loop or branch of the main vein to the north of the opencut by a crosscut level (NY91563900). Gowland's Shaft (NY91663899) was used to work small quantities of fluorspar from reserves to the east.
In 1974, EXSUD Ltd drilled seven inclined boreholes in the area to prove the geometry of the vein in this area, whilst also providing proof of the Whin Sill at varying horizons.
