A former surface and underground Mn-Baryte mine located in the NE¼ sec. 26, T5S, R29E, 1.0 mile E of Gillard Hot Springs (the Pyrolusite No. 1 claim is located about 1.0 mile N of the Gila River), 5½ miles NW of Guthrie, 10 miles by road SW of Clifton, on a military reservation. The property comprises 4 unpatented claims. After several years of initial development work, claims were abandoned and were relocated by H.J. Peters in 1954. Discovered in 1938 by W.A. Hult. Owned by H.J. Peters and Associates (1954).

Mineralization is ore in lenses and irregular pods. The ore zone is 60.96 meters long and 0.91 meters wide. Mn ore occurs sproadically along narrow fractures in parallel stringers in Gila Conglomerate. Ore concentration was in parallel stringers along fracture zones. Alteration was minor. The vein containing Manganese ore on the Pyrolusite No. 1 claim is exposed on the surface.

Area structures include substantial fracturing of Gila Conglomerate. Fractures strike a few degrees NW and cut the gently dipping sedimentary beds at high angles. The two most entensive deposits are located on the northernmost and southernmost fractures.

Workings total 18.29 meters in length. Development included a shallow open cut about 30 feet long and a 25 foot deep adit driven vertically (??) below the cut, on the northernmost fracture; a shallow open cut about 30 feet long on the southernmost fracture; 20 feet of drifting and a shallow open cut approximately 4 feet by 6 feet by 10 feet on the pyrolusite No. 1 claim. A few tons of hand-sorted ore was produced in 1955, at 40% Mn. 1939 ore analysis gave 0.4% Fe, 3.8% Si, 21.6% Mn, and 8.53% BaCO3.
