The Cumbre Vieja Area is not the usual cone or vent but rather a North to South trending volcanic ridge comprising several vents and smaller volcanos.

2021 saw the volcano begin eruptions on 19 September and lasted until 13 December 2021. The eruptions destroyed numerous homes and pouring lava in a westerly direction from several vents. The eruption site was renamed the Tajogaite Volcano.

In 1949 eruptions began on 24 June and lasted until 30 July. The eruptions began in the Duranznero crater and along a series of smaller vents. A second eruption occurred at Llano del Banco. Further eruptions occurred in the Hoyo Negro crater.

In 1677 the San Antonio Cone erupted and lasted from 17 November until 21 January 1678.

Other known eruptions of Cumbre Vieja have occurred in 1971 (close to the San Antonio cone and the Roque Teneguia plug), 1712 (El Charco), 1646 (Tigalate or Martin eruption), 1585 (located near Jedny village) and 1435.

Coordinates shown are for the approximate position of the 2021 eruption site.

Note: that Tschernich listed this locality as La Veja.
