A small tin and copper mine situated on the east side of the Poldice valley, just north of Hale Mills. The main shaft was Goodluck Shaft, of which a large burrow remains in a field about 300 yards north of Hale Mills. This is marked by the grid reference.
Between 1815 and 1847, Wheal Henry produced 1,860 tons of 8% copper ore.
Hamilton Jenkin notes that in 1841 the mine captain Joseph Vivian reported the mine to be very poor (for tin) on both the South Lode and North (Abbot's) Lode at the 12 and 20 fathom levels. The mine was however worked ultimately to 90 fathoms. (Mines and Miners of Cornwall, pt VI Around Gwennap, 1963, Truro Bookshop, Truro).
A public footpath leaves the cycle trail directly below the chimney and zig-zags up the hill passing below the tip associated with the engine house. A detour off the path is required to reach the engine house. The tip is across the adjoining field and is mostly grown over though the shaft collar and steep slope of the tip are clear. The tip is made up of soft pale grey shale with some quartz but metal minerals are quite scarce. Dec 2022.
