Plaine de l'Allendon, Dardagny-Russin, Genève (Genf; Geneva), Suisse (Schweiz; Svizzera)
The Allondon River forms a wide alluvial plain of 4 x 0.3 km. The river is ending in the Rhône River. The sediments are composed of limestone from the Jura Mountains, autochthonous sandstones (molasses) and crystalline materials carried by the Rhône glacier during the last glaciations (Würm & Riss). Aar granite, Vallorcine granite, serpentinites and eclogitic rocks pebbles to boulders from Valais are very common.
The placers of Allondon are well known and have been exploited by the “orpailleurs” (gold panners) since the Middle Ages or even before. The average composition of the gold is ~Au75.5, Ag23.8, Cu0.6 atom-% (electron microprobe statistics on 200 grains, P.A. Wulser, unpublished results).
