An iron mine opened as the Gibson Mine in 1885 by the Rogers-Brown Ore Co. It was operated by the Oliver Iron Mining Co. during 1893 through 1916 as the Michigan Mine. The Michigan Mine exploited the middle-Precambrian Amasa Iron Formation of the Baraga Group. The property description is NE-NW Sec. 9 T44N-R33W, which is 40 acres between N46º13'42", N46º13'55", W88º26'24", and W88º26'42".
