An iron mine opened by H. B. Swain in 1887, then taken over by Cherry Valley Furnace Co. in 1891, shipping 2,844 tons of ore through 1892. Workings reached a depth of 100 feet. This mine worked the middle-Precambrian Amasa Iron-formation of the Baraga Group. The property description is SW-NE Sec. 26 T43N-R32W, which is the 40 acres between N46º5'39", N46º5'52", W88º16'5", and W88º16'24".
