An iron mine opened in 1907 by the Brule Mining Co. and operated through 1920, producing 1.4 million tons of ore. The property was later incorporated into the Hiawatha No. 1 mine, and then into the Hiawatha Group. The Chatham Mine features two shafts, with 11 levels developed from the No. 1 shaft, and 3 levels developed from the No. 2 shaft. The property description of the mine is NE-SE Sec. 35 T43N-R35W, which is the 40 acres between N46º4'35", N46º4'48", W88º38'14", and W88º38'33".
