Bleihütte Plombier; Blei- und Zinkhütte Plombier

Zinc and lead slag dump Bleyberg (Plombières).

In Plombières there was a large smelter plant with lead and zinc furnaces in addition to the lead-zinc mine.
Total production (1828-1882): 115,000 tons of galena and 110,000 tons of sphalerite (as schalenblende).

The lead was won by a blast furnace system (high-temperature smelting) and the zinc via reduction furnaces. The produced zinc ores were roasted in local shaft furnaces and then the zinc ore was converted into zinc metal by reduction with coal by muffle furnaces. As a consequence, large amounts of "slag" have been left behind. Therefore, the creation of a separate locality for the "slag".

The largest part of the slag dump has been removed. A part of the northern dump still remains, which contains mostly "slag" of the lead furnaces, but also some other minerals.

Called "Bleihütte Plombier" or "Blei- und Zinkhütte Plombier" in German (e.g. in Blaß & Graf, 1995a,b).
