Hawkstone Minerals Limited are pegging claims in the area in 1969, and at Weebo Bore a drilling programme had identified an anomalous nickel-sulphide deposit. Allstate Exploration explored the site in 1972, listed as a Ni-Cu deposit. In more recent times it has been owned by BHP Billiton, who have stated it contains 880 000 tonnes of Ni metal.
We have shown the location of the prospect 15 kilometres south of Leinster and bordering the east side of the highway, where a rehabilitated trench exists. This location is based on a 2010 exploration company map of the area, and is on a geological trend with Ni deposits to the north. However the co-ordinates need confirmation, with maps also listing a Weebo Bore prospect 2 kilometres south, and an old open pit named Weebo on maps also in the general area, located near Goanna Patch.
Lenticular zone of serpentinized olivine rich ultramafic rock, 500 metre long by 80 metres wide. At depth the lens ore grades to black serpentinized antigoric olivine peridotite to dunite, with tremolite-serpentine-chlorite-talc schist margins, and at the strike ends.
Chromium hornblende-calci plagioclase amphibolite borders the west, and sodic plagioclase-biotite-chlorite schist, garnetiferous, with tremolite ultramafic schist to the east.
Below 135 metres from the surface is pyrite, magnetite, lesser pentlandite, nickeliferous linnaeite, millerite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite. In the upper oxidised zone are sulphide aggregates , and interstitial to antigorite in the core lens.
