A group of iron mines located at Stambaugh and Caspian near Iron River. Consolidated by the Hanna Iron Ore Co. and operated in part through 1967, the group consisted of two major mine complexes: the Hiawatha No. 1, and the Hiawatha no. 2. The two were combined in 1943. By 1967, the Hiawatha Group had produced 20.8 million tons of ore.

The Hiawatha No. 1 began operations in 1893, operated by the Munro Iron Mining Co. This complex engulfed several smaller mines and mining properties: the Anna Mine, North Hiawatha property, West Hiawatha property, Chatham Mine, Stegmiller property, and the east half (the producing half) of the Wickwire Mine.

The Hiawatha No. 2 was started in 1935 by the American-Boston Mining Co. The complex included three surrendered properties of the Riverton Group: the Dober, Duff, and Isabella mines. The Oliver Iron Mining Co. started operations at the Riverton Group in 1892, and the two other Riverton Group mines, the Iron River and Riverton, continued operations independently of the Hiawatha through 1937.

The Hanna Iron Ore Co. also purchased the old Brule mine in 1931 but only made one shipment from existing stockpile. This property was sometimes known as the Hiawatha No. 3. Its property description is NE-SW and NW-SE Sec. 34 T43N-R35W.
